About Meghan Pauley Nespeca
Meghan Pauley Nespeca is a self taught textile artist, surface pattern designer and illustrator, based in the rural countryside of North Carolina. Working out of her sunshine filled home studio, she creates folk inspired original textile and mixed media collage artworks full of hand painted fabrics, papers and poetry, steeped with whimsy and nostalgia.
Her endless love of color and pattern is found in her surface designs + illustrations, which are available for licensing and collaborations.
With her childhood days spent in New England, Meghan found a love for sunshine filled days at the seaside and glowing campfires in the mountains. For timeworn patchwork quilts and hand made woolen sweaters, and with her insatiable fascination with color, fell in love with using her hands to create.
Meghan has found her home in the sweet hills of the South, with it’s rolling farms and slow pace. Past travels through India + Asia, childhood memories in New England, her journey through motherhood, and her home in the North Carolina countryside have all deeply inspired her art.
Her process for creating is full of intuition and freedom. Natural fibers and repurposed fabrics + papers are intentionally used in her work, as they not only add an earthy element of nostalgia, but are also sustainable and nontoxic. Natural dyeing with botanicals, painting on both cloth + paper, hand stamping, illustration, and original poetry are all components of her art, which are then hand embroidered and machine sewn into wall quilts and framed mixed media textile pieces.
In 2022 Meghan’s nursery decor + children’s collection of artworks, Tulip + Cloth, was born from a love of creating whimsical and colorful textile + illustrations, perfect for a little one’s space.
Her art is rooted in hope, nostalgia and deep sentiment. In the everyday as well as the exceptional. Laden with a simple sweetness of life that can be so easily forgotten… a remembrance of heart.
Meghan has collaborated with brands such as Cotton + Steel and Anewall, in which her artwork came alive on fabric and wallpaper.
Her work has been featured in multiple local and international publications
