My Path To Becoming A Textile Artist

My path to becoming a textile artist wasn’t always linear, but it was always clear. From my childhood days in New England, surrounded by old quilts, days spent in Vermont antique shops, and handmade woolen sweaters, my heart was drawn to fibers.. to the delicate muslins, and the natural earthy linens. My hands were always making, creating something from nothing, and making became my passion, even as a young child.

I taught myself to sew when I was in high school, listening to the hum of my grandmother’s old Singer sewing machine, while I sewed clothes in ways that made sense to me. I’ve always been self taught, and in a way, I feel grateful for that. It’s helped me to to cultivate my own authentic style, which is non conventional in many ways.

My love for creating was rekindled in my early 20’s after many travels though India and Asia. Inspiration was found in every form, from the bright and busy flower markets to the slow afternoons by the ocean painting and hand sewing. It was during this time in my life that I fully realized my path was to create textile art.

I’ve had many studios over the years, from small sunlit rooms in older homes, to large and spacious spaces…and I’ve created countless pieces of artwork. As a mother, I love having my studio in my home and often have my youngest by my side making his own creations.

Inspiration comes in many forms, from spending time in nature, to sitting in my studio painting fabric, and everything in between.

My art is simply the essence of my heart, of what I hold to be good and true. And I’m so grateful to be able to share it with you.
