How To Display Textile Art

Everyone loves textile art, as but not many people know how to display it in their homes. And what’s the best way to frame it? I’m asked these questions all the time, so I thought I’d write a blog post about it and share my thoughts. From other artists needing advice to art collectors who are curious about my process and interested in purchasing a piece for their own homes, I’m passionate about my art and love to share my knowledge!

Of course there are countless ways to display textile art. but I’ll focus on the two that I use the most.

Framing Textile Art Behind Glass:

The way I offer most pieces is framed, as in the art shown below.

The original pieces shown above are available on Minted From left to right, Wandering Hills, Rooted, Sunny Love, Meet Me in the Meadow, Dreaming of Spring, Earth Beneath Me

To frame these pieces, I place the textile piece right behind the glass.. (between the matboard and the glass), using framers tape to mount the art to the board. I prefer to leave all of my edges raw, but of course this is up to the artist.

Of course, another option is to have the piece professionally framed, as many people like to do, and the framer can guide you in this process.

My larger textile pieces are sold unframed, for the collector to have framed to their liking.

“Abloom” has raw edges which I like to display

The second way that I display my textile art is …

Displayed As A Wall Quilt :

This method of displaying art quilts is a bit more traditional in the quilting world. My textile artwork is backed, trimmed and a fabric “sleeve” is hand sewn onto the back of the piece, in which a dowel rod can be slipped through and used to hang. Most of pieces are offered framed behind glass, though.

I hope this helps you in your textile art journey! I’m always happy to help, so please send me note if you’d like to get in touch, if you have questions about my art or you’d like your own custom piece!

As always, thanks for being here!

Meghan
